Fading kitten syndrome in cats refers to a number of unfortunate ways that kittens might die during the early weeks after they’re born. Certain pedigree breeds of kitten are said to be more likely to suffer from the condition.

If you see any of the symptoms in a newly born or early age adopted kitten, then you must get to a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Some of the most common causes include:

  • Congenital defects
  • Parasites
  • Viral infections
  • Environmental problems (such as unsanitary conditions)

Studies have suggested that Persian kittens are a breed of cat that’s most likely to suffer from the condition.

Treatments For Fading Kitten Syndrome In Cats

If your vet suspects that your kitten might be in danger of succumbing to fading kitten syndrome, they’ll perform a physical exam and ask questions about the kitten’s medical history and behavior. In some cases, vets can gain insight by also examining the mother cat.

Due to the wide range of causes of the condition, early intervention and action is key. It’s always better to be overly cautious in these cases.

Treatment will depend upon the root cause. Sometimes vets prescribe medicines and antibiotics, while more severe cases might involve surgery. As ever, if your vet prescribes antibiotics for your kitten, you must complete the full course of medicine and adhere to the correct dosage instructions.

Longer-term home care for a kitten will entirely depend upon the diagnosis of the cause of the condition.
