We donated our gently used old cat tree to the local animal shelter and today my friend who works there sent us this picture . I dubbed them Larry, Curley and Moe.

When I got home from Afghanistan, I volunteered at an animal shelter to ease the transition. I came in one day during my first week of volunteering and found out that someone dropped off a container (yeah, plastic container with a lid in Texas heat) overnight filled with kittens. I had to have one.

At 21, I decided to adopt my first animal. He’s 5 years old and spent two months in a shelter. It took him days before he was comfortable with me but now I remind him every night as he sleeps on my chest that he’ll never be alone again—he’s my little baby and I can’t imagine life without him now.
